Sacristy and Pulpit of the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence
The Pulpit of Benedetto da Maiano
The octagonal structure of the pulpit, finely decorated on all sides, takes the form of the pillar to which it is attached.The scenes depicted are from the life of St Francis of Assisi. The statues in the lower niches represent the virtues.
The Sacristy
The square sacristy was built in 1340 at the expense of the Peruzzi family.Its walls are covered with 15th century carved wooden cabinets by Giovanni di Michele.
The large frescoes of the ascension and resurrection are by Niccolo Gerini, while Taddeo Gaddi painted the crucifixion.
