Grave of Lorenzo the Magnificent and his brother Giuliano de Medici in Florence

Michelangelo, Lorenzo the Magnificent and Giuliano de Medici grave in the New Sacristy Sagrestia Nuova in Florence in Italy
Lorenzo the Magnificent and Giuliano grave
The grave of Lorenzo the Magnificent and his brother Giuliano is opposite the altar and consists of a simple marble sarcophagus topped by three statues.

The central statue is a Madonna and Child carved by Michelangelo.

It is surrounded by the two holy protectors of the Medici, Cosimo and Damien.

The statues of the two saints were carved by Michelangelo's pupils on his indications.

Before being transported to the new sacristy, the bodies of Lorenzo the Magnificent and his brother Giuliano rested separately in the church of San Lorenzo.

They were placed in their new common grave in 1559.
