The Chapel of the Princes' Dome's Frescoes in Florence

The frescoes in the dome of the Chapel of the Medici Princes made by Pietro Benvenuti between 1828 and 1836 are a fine example of Florentine neoclassicism.

It should be remembered that initially, this vault had to be decorated with ultramarine lapis lazuli and gilded bronze flowers.

But the cost of such a lapis lazuli decoration no longer corresponds to the financial means of the Medici. It was decided to replace the planned decoration with frescoes.

These frescoes are particularly colourful, and the presentation of the biblical steps is of high quality.

The chromatic range of these frescoes is added in a pleasant way to the more austere decoration of the chapel itself.
