Arriving by plane to Florence: Airports of Florence, Pisa and Bologna

You have three options to get to Florence by plane, either directly at Florence airport, via Pisa or Bologna airport.

Florence Airport - Amerigo Vespucci Peretola

This airport is the closest to Florence (5 km) so the most interesting airport to reach Florence.

Tramway Florence Airport Amerigo Vespucci

Florence Peretola Airport is directly connected to the centre of Florence by a tram run by the Italian subsidiary of the RATP.

The tram stops at Via Alamanni next to Santa Maria Novella train station or Place de l'Unita, a little further in the centre of Florence. The journey takes 20 minutes.

Schedules range from 5:00 in the morning to 00:30 in the evening (until 2:00a.m. on Friday and Saturday). Depending on the hours in the day, the frequency of trams varies from 7 to 18 minutes, one tram every 7 minutes on average to busy hours.

The one-way fare is on average €2 (depending on the terms of purchase), in each station you have a ticket vending machine.

The travel time between the airport and the city of Florence is about 15 minutes.

Pisa Airport

Pisa Airport is more important than Florence Peretola Airport but is 95 kilometres from the city of Florence and 3 km from Pisa. It takes about an hour (by car or bus) to get to Florence from Pisa.

Bus to Florence from Pisa Airport

The bus company Terravision offers a shuttle from Pisa Airport to Florence.

Buses, Shuttles and Trains to Pisa and Florence

All buses departing from Pisa airport to Florence continue on Siena.

A direct tram service is also available from the airport to Pisa. The stop is about 40 metres from the passenger terminal.

The People Mover shuttle operates daily from 6:00 to midnight with departures every 5 to 8 minutes.

There is also a bus line called LAM Rosso city bus that joins the train station of Pisa, from there you can reach Florence by train for less than 10 euros.

Bus Autostradale lines offer a connection between Pisa Airport and Santa Maria Novella Train Station in Florence.

Bologna Airport

Bologna Airport is 100 kilometres north of Florence, but reaching Bologna Train Station (15 minutes by the aerobus) you are only 35 minutes from Florence train station by high-speed train.

Attention: The flights indicated to Bologna by the Ryanair Company do not land at Bologna airport but at Forli Airport which is located more than 60 kilometres from Bologna and very inconvenient if you want to go to Florence afterwards.
